Datamorphosis Exhibition – Part of Biennale Architecture 2024, Esch Capitale

A work in progress-exhibition by Critical Data students from our Interface Cultures department of Kunstuniversität Linz.

Datamorphosis is an exhibition on the blurry, disorienting space between input and output. This exhibition serves as a stage for prototypes, experiments, discussions, and exploring of digital black boxes, inviting visitors to engage with the artistic research of our participating artists.

This marks our third collaboration with scholars from the University of Luxembourg. In the context of the collaborative lecture Critical Data of the Interface Cultures department, students of the Kunstuniversität Linz exchanged ideas with professors and PhD candidates of the University of Luxembourg in the summer semester 2024.

Together with the initiator of this program, Prof. Manuela Naveau, the students are invited for a residency at Bridderhaus to Luxembourg to exhibit their work in progress and also present artistic/scientific posters related to their research.

The students developed works that looked critically at how data is used when deploying deep learning computer programs and how machine learning is influencing society.  The exhibition was developed within the framework of the Critical Data lecture, which is part of the Interface Cultures Master program at University of Arts Linz. It examines the relationship between artists, critical mediation and use of data, data processing systems and related knowledge. This exhibition is already the third exhibition realized in conversation with scholars of the University of Luxembourg (Prof. Dr. Christoph Schommer) and the first one in collaboration with the highly new and outstanding Elektron Festival, Platform for art, technology, science, and society in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg.

We are stepping into the field of transformation. We follow the path through liquefying binarities and encounter the ambiguity of signs within the foggy data clouds. We listen to the waves of fluid codes and start digitalizing the threshold.

The exhibition opens on Friday, 17 May 2024 and runs until September 28th, 2024 at Bridderhaus, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. Featuring the following students’ works:

Alessia Fallica (IT): Shock Value
Emma Silvana Tripaldi (IT): Algorithmic Symbiosis
Martina Pizzigoni (IT): (Very) Neural System
Salma Aly (EG): Tangible Ai
Simon Hehl (AT): Dirty Data
Sofia Talanti (IT): Blue Danube
